Weymouth BID to support the Town Centre Manager

Weymouth BID to support the Weymouth Town Centre Manager with £20,000 contribution for project delivery.

WPBC’s Management Committee confirmed recently the funding of a Weymouth Town Centre Manager and referred to a £20,000 contribution from Weymouth BID.

The support referred to is to help with projects that this role can deliver and which support the Weymouth BID Business Plan.

This funding is not part of the salary package, but links into a number of projects within the Business Plan that this role can deliver and the BID Board felt it would make sense to allocate funding already linked to the Business Plan to be used under the Town Centre Manager rather than duplicate resources trying to achieve the same goal.

The BID has been working with WPBC in the creation of this role to ensure the BID and Town Centre Manager do not duplicate resources and can support each other in working together to improve the Town Centre which ultimately benefits the town.

Initial discussion had looked at working within the BID, but it was felt that the role needed to be independent and part of the Local Authority. The added advantage is it also gives the BID a “go to” person for issues that levy payers raise.

BID Manager Nigel Reed said “At first there were some concerns amongst the Board that it was duplicating the BIDs role, but by working with the Officers and Briefholders involved we feel this will be a real benefit.”

He added “It is hoped that the position will be filled quickly and we look forward to working with the person employed on projects to improve the Town Centre.”
