Important Information from Portland Port - Cruise Ship Opportunities

Portland Port would like to get the following information out there to benefit both visitors and businesses:

It has been reported that the welcome in Weymouth is always warm, friendly and helpful

There has been and will continue to be an increase year on year in cruise ship visits to Portland Port

Portland Port organise and pay for shuttle buses to bring visitors to our town – it is our duty to make them want to return in the future

Approximately 50% of the visitors who disembark choose to visit somewhere in the Dorset area

We currently have no official tour excursions organised for Weymouth and Portland which is definitely a gap in the market

Many cruise ship visitors would like to be able to cycle around the area if this were made possible

It was recognised by Portland Port that the BID Weyfarers do a terrific job in welcoming passengers and showing them the way around the town.

If it were possible to get the intelligent traffic lights to let shuttle buses through quickly then passengers could potentially be dropped in other areas of the town

In association with DCC we could provide a welcome shelter with maps by the drop-off point.

How can my business help more? Learn a few words of welcome in German, Spanish or Norwegian.  Have a sign in your window welcoming the cruise ship passengers  - naming the ship specifically in your welcome. Offer discounts to visitors, displayed clearly. Offer to take photos of them outside your business. Show them the quirky details/history of your premises. Have the facility to accept Euros – most passengers will only have dollars or Euros.

Finally – Portland Port is always looking for new bands to perform on the quayside when the ships arrive – who would you recommend?
