Support for businesses in light of Plan B

Yesterday, the government announced the following support measures to support business:

  • Businesses in the hospitality and leisure sectors in England will be eligible for one-off grants of up to £6,000 per premises, plus more than £100 million discretionary funding will be made available for local authorities to support other businesses
  • Government will also cover the cost of Statutory Sick Pay for Covid-related absences for small and medium-sized employers across the UK
  • £30 million further funding will be made available through the Culture Recovery Fund, enabling more cultural organisations in England to apply for support during the winter

Whilst we are pleased to hear of the Government’s package to support the leisure and hospitality sectors today, businesses need more.

The package does not provide support to the many other sectors who have been hit equally hard by the lack of footfall at what should be a busy time of the year.

Access to these funds are needed immediately, along with robust measures to ensure that all businesses get the support they need in these uncertain times.

We are in touch with Dorset Council about how businesses will be able to access this additional support, and continue to support the Business Booster campaign, pressing the Government to take wider and meaningful action.
