Cozy Up By The Coast This Autumn

As the summer season draws to a close, Weymouth shifts down a gear to a slightly slower autumnal pace.  Now is the time for brisk walks and evenings bathed in purple, pink and gold as the sun sets. The multitude of vibrant, unique restaurants and bars bring dining and drinking back inside, as fires are lit and lights turned down low.  Autumn by the coast is a truly special time; cold sea swimming steps up a notch as temperatures drop, walking and bike trails are busy with weekend warriors escaping the city, and couples flock to enjoy the romance of the coastline as the days begin to get shorter.

The King of staycation towns this summer, Weymouth does not stop, and is offering a diverse and entertaining schedule of events throughout the autumn and winter months. This celebration of the town, in addition to the festive time of year is the perfect excuse to disappear to the coast for a few days – admiring giant puppets at dusk or taking in some Christmas shopping at the Steampunk Victorian-themed Christmas Activities.

24th & 25th September – A Sense of Unity

The spectacular after-dark parade show Sense of Unity will make its way through the town led by the drummers of Worldbeaters playing a soundtrack inspired by world rhythms and the West African kora. The procession is on a quest to find the puppets of Baby Dundu and gentle giant Dundu. Lit from the inside, these mesmerising figures are handled and steered through the crowd by a crack team of five puppeteers.

October Spooky Fun

A month of celebrations are taking place throughout the town from Zombies at the Nothe Fort, The Haunted Harbour tour, Ascarium at the SEA LIFE Weymouth Adventure Park & Aquarium to the Halloween Spooktacular at the Weymouth Pavilion and much more.  During October children are invited to take part in the Spirit Animal Trail throughout the town, by simply downloading a QR code to begin exploring: https://weareweymouth.co.uk/events/

27th November – Have your-elf a Merry little Christmas!

On 27th November we celebrate the official start of the Christmas season with the lights illumination in Weymouth Town Centre. We are celebrating with street entertainment, as well as an Elf World Record Attempt!  To beat the world record, we need 2,000 ‘elves’ to join us in the Town Centre.  Along with elves, there will be Santa’s sleigh, street performers, an elf post office with direct link to the North Pole and much more.

Steampunk Victorian Christmas – 3rd to 5th December

Throughout Weymouth we see official Steampunk activities, promenade and exhibits pop-up, all with a Christmas twist.  Visitors are encouraged to wear their best Steampunk attire and join in the fun of this fantastical gathering.  A full agenda of events for the weekend will be released.

A Travelling Nativity – 11th  December

A modern take on the traditional nativity, where visitors can walk through the town, participate in activities to see scenes from the nativity story, before concluding in Hope Square for a carol concert around the Christmas Tree.  Great fun for the whole family and a wonderful way to see Weymouth at Christmas time.

Santa Pudding Run – 18th & 19th December

The famous Santa Pudding Run is back!  The best thing YULE see this Christmas. Weymouth fills with Santa’s of all shapes and sizes taking on the challenge of a 5k run chasing a Christmas pudding along the beach.  Festive fun for all.

After the weekend of activities, it’s time for Santa to head to the elf post office and collect the letters to take with him to the North Pole for those all-important Christmas presents on Christmas morning.

Weymouth offers a wide array of hotels and B&B’s to get away from it all, as well as independent cafes, bars, restaurants and pubs, all perfect for cosying up in over the coming months.  Whilst attending some of these spectacular events why not do a spot of Christmas shopping, pop for a bite of lunch or dance the night away to the host of live music on offer throughout the town.

To shake off the cobwebs the next day a brisk walk along the beach or quick dip in the sea is a sure-fire way to clear the head.

The rugged Jurassic Coastline offers the perfect backdrop for a wonderful weekend away, or half term family staycation.

Come and see, We Are Weymouth | We Are Celebrating.
