Festivities provide a boost to Weymouth business

A bumper-packed month of events provided a boost to Weymouth business during another challenging year for business in Weymouth. We Are Weymouth BID worked to bring activities throughout the town in four weekends throughout the festive period, including:

  • Elf World Record Attempt & Christmas Lights Switch On
  • Gingerbread Decorating Workshops
  • Hat Making Workshops
  • Bauble Decorating Workshops
  • Santa’s Post Office
  • Steampunk Festivities at the Nothe Fort
  • Steampunk Ball at the Royal Hotel
  • Steampunk Promenade and Market
  • Travelling Nativity
  • Carols in Hope Square

The events helped drive footfall and spend to the town in at a key time for businesses, and attracted a diverse range of attendees.

Data from Weymouth’s footfall counters show that over 73,000 visited Weymouth Town Centre on the day of the Elf World Record Attempt and Lights Switch On, and a BID survey showed 94% spending money during their visit, with 64% saying they would not have attended if these events were not on.

We were pleased to work with partners and a range of businesses throughout the town to host these festivities and bring both the business and wider community together.

Thank you to all of those businesses took part and to those who have provided feedback about the events. We look forward to celebrating Christmas together again in 2022!
