WEYMOUTH UNVEILS ‘DINO-MITE’ FOSSIL TRAIL – A JURASSIC ADVENTURE FOR ALL!

A brand new, permanent fossil trail launches in Weymouth this February half term, bringing prehistoric wonders to life.

Weymouth is stepping back in time with the launch of the Weymouth Fossil Trail – a permanent, interactive installation celebrating the town’s Jurassic heritage. Created by We Are Weymouth (BID), phase one of the trail goes live on Saturday 15th February 2025, just in time for half term.

The trail features nine unique fossil installations, each handcrafted by Deadwalk Designs. Visitors can follow the route, scan QR codes and discover fascinating facts about the creatures that roamed Dorset millions of years ago.

Free to explore, the trail offers families, school groups, history lovers and day-trippers a fun way to learn more about the Jurassic Coast while enjoying the town centre.

“Weymouth’s connection to the Jurassic Coast is something truly special, and this trail gives visitors a chance to engage with that history in a fun and interactive way. We can’t wait to see dinosaur lovers of all ages exploring the town and enjoying the experience.”

  • Howleys Toymaster, Frederick Place

Dino Run & Animatronic Dinosaurs

Launch day is set to be ROAR-some with:

  • The Weymouth Dinosaur Run on the beach

  • Animatronic dinosaurs roaming the town centre

Event details:

  • Date: Saturday 15 February 2025

  • Registration: from 11am (Pavilion end of Weymouth Beach)

  • Race starts: 1pm

  • Distances: 5km (adults), 2km (under 16s), 1km (under 11s), preschool dash
