– Weymouth invites residents and visitors to celebrate King George III’s birthday on the Esplanade, 6th & 7th June 2026 –
Weymouth is calling on locals and visitors to dust off their finest Georgian attire and answer a ‘Royal Decree’ this summer, as the King George III Birthday Celebration takes to the seafront for a weekend of history, theatre, and seaside spectacle.
At the heart of the weekend is The King’s Dip, a playful reimagining of the royal bathing rituals that once made Weymouth one of Britain’s most fashionable seaside destinations. Participants will be encouraged to take to the water, embracing the spirit of the era in a lighthearted and memorable moment on the beach.
Across the two days, the seafront will come alive with immersive performances, a street party, music, street theatre and costumed characters, creating an interactive experience that invites visitors to step directly into Weymouth’s history. From chance encounters with Georgian figures to pop up performances along the promenade, the event is designed to be engaging, accessible and fun for all ages.
Families, locals and visitors are encouraged to “answer the call” and take part in the celebrations, with opportunities to dress up, join in and experience the town’s royal connections in a fresh and entertaining way.

Run by Kris Hallett and the Kings Dip Project CIC in support of the local museum and Supported by We Are Weymouth and Weymouth Town Council, the event forms part of a wider push to build the town’s identity around its extraordinary Georgian heritage, and its connection to the Regency period – often referred to as ‘Bath-on-sea’.
“Weymouth has a genuinely remarkable history,” said Dawn Rondeau-Irvine, Chief Operations Officer at We Are Weymouth. “King George III didn’t just visit, he put the town on the map and many of the reasons that visitors flocked to Weymouth in the 1900s remain the same today. With our beautiful beach, characterful seafront and promenade and bustling town centre visitors of all ages enjoy a dip in Weymouth Bay! The King’s Dip gives people a way to connect with that story in a way that’s fun, accessible, and memorable.”
The celebrations are free to attend and open to all, with activities for families throughout the weekend.
